Ambassador Vahagn Afyan delivered a speech at an event organized by UNEP India and RIS

On the 30th of September, Ambassador Vahagn Afyan delivered remarks at the event entitled “Connecting Nature and Climate: India’s Preparatory Dialogue for CBD COP17 and UNFCCC COP31,” held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.

At the event, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme in India (UNEP India) and the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), Ambassador Afyan presented Armenia’s key priorities as the host country and incoming Presidency of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17).

In a separate part of his remarks, the Ambassador highlighted the prospects for expanding environmental cooperation between Armenia and India. Potential areas of cooperation include ecosystem restoration, water resource management, climate-resilient agriculture, renewable energy, environmental education, and capacity-building. He also emphasized the potential for strengthening cooperation between research institutions, universities, policymakers, and experts from the two countries.

Concluding his remarks, the Ambassador reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to working closely with all Parties and stakeholders to ensure an inclusive, transparent, and effective COP17, with the aim of translating environmental ambitions into concrete actions and measurable results.
